The Song is a painting I created in 2006. She is one of several in my Ladies series. While painting these ladies I experience a magical moment when a lady appears. Usually these paintings begin with lines and colors. I always feel that first stage in creating a painting is just getting started, be it with a preconceived idea or with spontaneous paint strokes. At first for me it’s about getting lines, colors, and shapes on the canvas. I will leave a shape that I think will become a face. In the second stage, the face usually emerges and I start adding more layers of colors. The third stage is all about adding details. Many of my works have orbs of different sizes. I am very attracted to the orb, circle, sphere, all these round shapes call to me. This particular painting speaks to me of sound. The movement of the lines symbolize the rhythm of a song. She is enraptured by the music as she feels the notes move around her. She is serene in the midst of the musical movement. The oranges and reds around her show warmth, theyare blocking out the coldness. This is what music and art do to the soul. They bring life and warmth.

A painter of acrylic, oil, and/or mixed media, themes of feminine beauty, strength, and power have always been prevalent in Lisa’s art. Since embracing motherhood in the 90’s, the wonder of womanhood has become an even more essential part of her current pieces.
The use of bright colors and ever apparent orbs, dots, circles, and bright colors all symbolize life and joy. Universal themes of spirituality, sensuality, and beauty are expressed in her work.
