La Cueva
acrylic,crayon on canvas 30″ x 30″
La Cueva means The Cave. This painting has many layers. It is very special to me because of the theme and the length of time that it took to be complete. The theme here is optimism. She is in a cave looking out into the light. Inside the cave there are many colors and layers. It can get dark sometimes, but all she needs to do is look toward the light. Life is like that. Inside each of us there is beauty and also ugliness. Looking beyond ourselves we capture light and goodness that we then bring inside. It is up to each individual to search for the positive within and without. There are also butterflies fluttering about. The butterfly is a symbol of change, of metamorphosis, of rebirth. Every moment is an opportunity to change for the better. This is probably the painting that took me the longest to finish. I paint rather quickly, but with this creation I kept adding to it and putting it aside for years.

A painter of acrylic, oil, and/or mixed media, themes of feminine beauty, strength, and power have always been prevalent in Lisa’s art. Since embracing motherhood in the 90’s, the wonder of womanhood has become an even more essential part of her current pieces.
The use of bright colors and ever apparent orbs, dots, circles, and bright colors all symbolize life and joy. Universal themes of spirituality, sensuality, and beauty are expressed in her work.
